Turkey's Flour Export Dominance

Turkey has achieved a remarkable milestone by maintaining its position as the world's leading wheat flour exporter for ten consecutive years, according to the latest data from the World Bank. In 2022, Turkey continued to hold the top spot, showcasing its unparalleled commitment to quality and consistency in flour production.

Global Wheat Production Trends

The 2020/21 season saw a global wheat production increase of 1.4%, reaching 773 million tons. This growth was primarily driven by higher yields in Russia, Kazakhstan, Australia, and Canada. However, countries like the European Union (EU), the United Kingdom, and Argentina experienced a decline in wheat production during the same period.

Increase in Wheat Production

In the following season, global wheat production rose to 781 million tons. This increase was attributed to enhanced production in China, the EU, Australia, India, and Ukraine. These countries contributed significantly to the global supply, ensuring stability in the wheat market.

Turkey's Flour Export Leadership

Turkey stands out as a country capable of meeting its own wheat consumption needs while also excelling in exports. In the previous year, Turkey produced 22 million tons of wheat and exported approximately 3.7 million tons of flour, securing its place as the world's leading flour exporter.

Decade of Uninterrupted Leadership

From 2013 to 2022, Turkey has consistently been the top exporter of wheat flour, with export volumes peaking at 3.5 million tons in 2016. Despite a slight decline between 2017 and 2021, Turkey's global leadership remained unchallenged. In 2022, Turkey's flour exports were recorded at 3.1 million tons, marking a 43.8% increase over the decade. Other notable exporters include Kazakhstan, Germany, Uzbekistan, Argentina, and India.

By maintaining a strong focus on quality and leveraging its strategic agricultural capabilities, Turkey continues to dominate the global wheat flour market, showcasing resilience and adaptability in an ever-changing economic landscape.
